1907 marks the end of his first stage of creation. Brancusi detaches from Rodin's influence and begins
to practice the direct cut and tries to find his own style .

1907/3 - The head of a young girl – Paris
1907 - The kiss
Brancusi The KissThrough this work, The Kiss, Brancusi is affirming his own style. The main idea in The Kiss is simple: the love as a fusion between 2 separate entities restores the original unity of life.
The Kiss by Brancusi can be considered as a replica of Rodin's Kiss. The work brings a new dimension to the concept of sculture. This work, apparently carved in a primitive manner, is the second work in which Brancusi uses direct cut technique.


1907 - The Wisdom of the Earth
Brancusi The Wisdom of the EarthThe wisdom of the Earth reflects the philosophy of Brancusi who was his roots in a wisdom prior to christianity.
The sculture represents a woman that is very focused on herself, her face emanating a mistery that transforms
her into a universal portrait. The attitude of the statue emanates a sense of attachment towards earth. In a way very similar to the Thinker of Hamangia.



1906-1907 - Torture
Brancusi Torture"The torture" appears in several versions between 1907-1907, each having a slightly modified form and crated from different materials. It is a deeper theme of "Child", Brancusi trying to convey the spiritual state of the sculture.
The transition from the previous plaster version into the bronze one brings an incrreased sense of sensibility .


1908 - The sleep
Brancusi The SleepThe Sleep represents the head of a sleeping woman. In the marble block the features are very delicate, barely perceptible, emanating great sensibility.
It looks like Brancusi also made a plaster 1906, preceded by another sculture The Sleeping Teen made in 1905.



1908 - Danaida
Brancusi DanaidaDanaida was made from a special stone imported from Bulgaria that was used by many sculptors . This stone head was exposed in Bucharest in 1914 at the XIV Artistic Youth Exhibition and it was bought by Bogdan Pitesti.





1909 - Thigh - Torso fragment
Brancusi TorsoWith this work, Brancusi won the top prize of 2000 lei in 1912 at the Offical Salon in Bucharet.
The stretched form of the small torso fragment represents the miraculous fusion between sensuality and purity.
The smooth surface of the sculture, seen on the left is the embodiment of perfection of the human figure. Wiewed from the right, the torso, appears as aneven as a piece of stone, where the human traits are not yet well defined .



1909 - Baroness RF
Brancusi BaronessIt is a first step towards the series "The Sleepings Muses". The stone version of the portrait of Baroness Renee Frachon differs from the initial version made in clay.
Brancusi captures the individuality in the model and gives it an air of sophisticated spirituality.

 

 

1909-1910 - The Sleeping Muse marble/bronze
Brancusi The Sleeping Muse in marbleBrancusi The Sleeping Muse in bronzeOnly 2 years after the creation of " The Sleep", in which the face was not well defined in the marble block, The Sleeping Muse performs a miracle: The elogated head barely touching the surface in a delicate balance. The muse is in a diffrent world, a world of its own, made by the material it was create in.


1908 – 1910 Petre Stanescu's tombstones in Buzau
At the recommendation of Dr. Greota and the painter Stefan Popescu, Brancusi receives an order to raise a funerary monument for Petre Stanescu in Buzau.
Brancusi carved the monument out of magura stone in 14 days. He also conceived "The Prayer" and "The bust of Petre Stanescu" as part of it.
Although he signed the contract in 1907 and had to deliver the work no later than 1908, the artist considered the work fully done 7 years later, in the spring of 1914.

1910 - The Prayer
Brancusi The PrayerThis works marks a turning point in Brancusi's style. It marks the beginning of a road that will lead to the art we are more familiar with.
Move eloquenly than the series "Child" , this statue expresses the brave and yet simple forms, the first sign of artistic guidelines that will become a turning point in modern european sculpture.

 


1910 - The bust of Petre Stanescu
Petre StanescuThis sculpture was made using a photo of him and the model of one of the decesead brothers.
Considering the fact that this work had to be installed on a high pedestal, the neck is slightly asymmetrical and the whole bust slightly elongated to give a feeling of perspective.

1910 - The Mythical Bird
Brancusi Mythical BirdMade in 1910, The Mythical Bird emphasize Brancusi's asouration for perfection. The shape that is given to the bird makes us think about the old religions and worship of god animals. The Mythical Bird is not an ordinary bird but a special and mythical one from the Romanian folk legends, that helps Prince Charming meet his true love .

 




1910 - The Kiss
Brancusi The Kiss 1910Through this work, Brancusi wanted to synthesize the victory of love in her confrontation with death.
It is actually the tomb of Rachevski Tatiana, a young woman who killed herself for love.
