The Kissing Column

Brancusi The Kissing ColumnIn 1916, the sculptor is first seen to be preoccupied with the idea of a real Kissing Column.
The Sculpture came to glorify love as the fulfillment in life.
Brancusi uses the same sculptural design that he later use on the Kissing Gate pylons .

Another version of the "The Kissing Column" was made in 1935, a sculpture in stone and plaster consisted of four modules and it was offered to two of his friends in 1950.
The column represents kissing in an architectural framework. The other three elements, creates an upward movement. Pontus Hulten wrote that the work is designed "to reach the sky."
